What’s In My Analog Hobby Basket

My Little Analog Hobby Basket

I did not set out to become an “analog hobby” person. It sort of happened slowly, after one too many nights of scrolling my phone and realizing I could not remember what I had even looked at. I craved something I could touch. Something slower. Something that felt real.

That is how my analog hobby basket was born.

It is not fancy. It is just a simple basket that sits in the corner of my living room. But inside it holds some of my favorite things to do when I’m needing a break from the scroll!

The Heart of It All, My Prints

The very first thing I reach for when I pull out my basket is my box of 4x4 prints. There is something about those little squares that makes our life feel important. Not curated. Not filtered. Just ours.

Sometimes I flip through photos from a random Tuesday. Pancakes on paper plates. My toddler in pajamas at 3 in the afternoon. A blurry photo of my husband making dinner. None of it is glamorous, but all of it is ours. And when I see those moments printed, it reminds me that ordinary days are actually the ones shaping our family story.

There have been nights when my daughter climbs into my lap and we go through the box together. She always look for themselves first. She laughs at their own silly faces. They ask questions about trips they barely remember. Those moments right there are why I print. It is the best kind of entertainment, seeing themselves in their own story.

My 4x4 Album and Photo Journal

Tucked next to my prints is my little 4x4” mini photo album. Some evenings I will sit on the couch and slide in a few new photos while listening to my favorite music. It feels simple and satisfying. No pressure to design a perfect spread. Just slipping memories into place.

I also keep a photo journal in the basket. This might be my favorite part. I will tape in a photo and write a few sentences next to it. Nothing long. Just little details I know I will forget. What my daughter called her stuffed animal. The way she insists on wearing rain boots in July. The joke my husband keeps repeating.

I used to think memory keeping had to be elaborate to matter. Now I know that a photo and a few honest sentences are more than enough.

Beads, Keychains, and Little Details

There is a small pouch of beads in my basket too. I love making simple beaded keychains to pair with my photo keychains. It feels playful and creative, like I am adding a tiny celebration to an already special memory. Find all of my supplies here!

I have clipped photo keychains onto diaper bags, backpacks, and even given them as little gifts. There is something so sweet about turning a moment into something you carry with you every day.

Yarn and Quiet Evenings

I also keep yarn in my basket for crochet projects. I am not an expert by any means. I am still learning. But there is something calming about working with yarn while my photos sit beside me! Send me ideas for things to crochet!

Swiping with Intention

Instead of scrolling social media, I’ve started swiping my photos in the Persnickety Box app! I need a new box of prints every month! Instead of rushing through it in the carpool line or late at night in bed, I make it part of this slower ritual.

I think about the month. The little wins. The funny faces. The quiet milestones no one else would notice. I choose the ones that tell the story of our real life. Knowing they will soon arrive as prints makes the whole process feel meaningful instead of overwhelming.

Why You Need an Analog Hobby Basket

This basket is not about being crafty. It is not about adding one more thing to my to do list. It is about creating space to notice our life as it is happening.

My Persnickety Box prints are the center of it all. They pull me back into the moments that would otherwise get buried in my camera roll. They give my kids something to hold. They give me something to reflect on. They turn our everyday life into something tangible.

In a world that moves so quickly, my analog hobby basket is my way of slowing down. And every time I open that box of prints, I am reminded that these days, messy and beautiful and ordinary, are worth keeping.
