Fun with Mod Podge
Mod podge is a glue, sealer and finish all in one. It comes in a variety of weights and finishes, including lustre or glossy. You can use mod podge to glue our silver halide ink-free photos onto a variety of surfaces!
I’ve used Mod Podge to seal photographic prints onto small ceramic tiles, making fun home decor or displays for events.
How to Make A Photo Wood Block
DIY Photo Wood Block Supplies:
📷 Why a Persnickety Box Print?
We’re all about longevity. Your digital image is turned into a digital negative and processed like film—real-deal, old-school film. This silver halide process embeds your image into the paper with lasers (how cool is that?!), giving you archival-quality prints that last hundreds of years. No ink. No smudging. Just forever-kind-of-beautiful memories.
Step 1: Pick Your Favorite Photo(s)
Swipe a cherished memory from your camera roll or snag one from our art collection here. Vacation pics, pet portraits, wedding snapshots, quotes or art —you can’t go wrong. Swipe into your Persnickety Box, close box of 30 photos and give us a few hours to get them out the door!
Step 2: Get Sticky with It
Take your wood block and paint a nice, even coat of Mod Podge onto the smooth side of the wood. Not globby. Just a smooth layer of gluey goodness.
💡 Pro Tip: If your wood block is a bit smaller than your photo (ours was 2mm shy), trim the photo slightly for a perfect, edge-to-edge fit.
Step 3: Press & Seal the Deal
Place your print onto the glue-covered block, gently smoothing out any bubbles or wrinkles (a credit card or your fingers work great). Then—here’s the fun part—brush a thin layer of Mod Podge directly over the front of the photo.
Don’t freak out—it’s gonna look a little...milky. That’s the glue doing its thing. Trust the process. Stroke the brush in the same direction for a clean, canvas-like finish. Be sure to seal those edges to prevent peeling later on.
Step 4: Dry Time
Give your masterpiece 10–20 minutes to dry. Grab a coffee. Admire your creativity. Try not to poke at it.
Notice the canvas-like texture the Mod Podge leaves over the top of the photo print.
