DIY Photo Flip Book

TURN BURST PHOTOS INTO A MINI MOVIE IN THE PALM OF YOUR HANDS

Have you ever captured the perfect burst of photos or a short video of your kids dancing, a romantic moment with your partner, or a friend blowing out birthday candles and then just let it sit on your phone? Same. But recently, I found a way to turn those fleeting moments into something tangible and FUN: a DIY photo flip book!

This easy little project is now one of my favorite ways to bring motion to print using the Persnickety Box app, and trust me, if I can do it, anyone can!

What You'll Need:

  • A burst of 30+ photos or a short video

  • The Persnickety Box app (for printing your photos!)

  • Glue tape

  • One 4" x 8.25" strip of decorative cardstock or scrapbook paper (for the cover)

Create Your Flip Book

1. Choose Your Moment

Scroll through your camera roll and find a burst of photos or a short video clip that shows continuous movement. Export your video into still frames (there are tons of free apps that can do this, see below for some suggestions), or pull out the best 30 sequential photos from a burst.

2. Print With Persnickety Box

Open the Persnickety Box app and upload your 30 photos. I love using this app because the 4x4" prints are made with real photographic paper (hello, darkroom quality!) and they’re archival, so your flip book won’t fade over time.
Tip: Adjust your photos slightly to the opposite side of where you will be gluing them together so that the focal point won’t be lost into the binding. For example, I glued my photos together on the left edge, so I adjusted my photos to be slightly cropped to the right. This way, my subjects weren’t lost into the seam.

3. Assemble the Flip Book

Once your prints arrive, stack them in order. Align one edge (I like the left side), then use glue tape to secure that edge. Press firmly. It should feel like the binding of a notepad.

4. Add the Cover

Cut a piece of decorative paper to 4 inches by 8.25 inches. Wrap it around the bound edge like a spine, then glue tape it to the front and back photo to create a finished look. Decorate as you desire! That’s it!

Flip and Watch the Magic

Now comes the best part, FLIPPING! You’ll see your still photos come to life, like an old-school movie reel. My kids love watching themselves run and spin through the pages. I loved creating this engagement flip book to relive this moment over and over again. It’s such a nostalgic and charming way to bring motion into memory keeping.

This little DIY flip book also makes a great gift or keepsake (think: first steps, wedding kiss, vacation jumps). And thanks to Persnickety Box’s high-quality prints, it’ll last for years to come.

Next time you capture a moment in motion, don’t just let it live on your phone. Print it, flip it, and relive it.
